pounde ( 2400) per annum, rising by annual increments of

Twenty pounds (£20) and a rent allowance in accordance with

the Government Regulations in respect thereof. Increments

however are not draw as of right but only by sanction of the

Government and will not be granted except upon the production

of a certificate from the Head of his Department, stating that

the person engaged hae discharged his duties with diligence and

fidelity. The salary will be payable monthly in dollars at the

rates which may for the time being be laid down under any rules

or regulations of the Government relating to payment of salaries,

Half salary will be paid during the voyage home on the satisfacto.

-ry termination of this engagement. In this agreement the period

of any voyage shall be reckoned as commencing on the day of

embarkation and ending on the day previous to the day of disem-

barkation of the person engaged both days inclusive.

The

Government shall also pay the person engaged such conveyance

allowance as may seem reasonable to the Government in respect

of out of pocket expenses properly incurred by him in connection

with his duties hereunder.

6.

After the completion of 24 months satisfactory service under

this agreement which shall be evidenced by a certificate from

the Director of Public Works to the effect that such service has

been satisfactory the Government shall pay to the person engaged

a sum equal to the coat to Government in May 1921 of half of a

return passage to and from the United Kingdom for an officer of

his rank and on the satisfactory «piration of this agreement and

subject to Clauses 7 and 8 he will be provided with a free 2nd

Class passage to England by P.& 0. Mail Steamer or meh other

passage as the Gonment may consider suitable provided he

claims and avails himself of such passage within one month from

the date of such expiration.
